Better decisions start with a better read.
Start with the court
In Rally Lab, watch the ball arrive, then choose a shot. The ball plays out an authored illustration of that choice. Try a three-call warmup or choose any of the 20 animated situations. Missed warmup calls return once for another look.
Use the answer buttons or A–D on a keyboard. The interactive shot court lets you aim by touch, mouse, arrow keys, or preset target buttons. A simple vector court remains available if your device cannot run the 3D graphics.
Train at your own pace
Theme practice is untimed by default. Timed challenges begin only when you press Make the call. Reduced-motion settings on your device shorten the animation to its result. Sound can be muted during a rated session.
Read the court
Turn on Read the court beside the animation toggle to hide the situation text until after your call. The frozen court then carries the read on its own: where everyone stands, who is planted, leaning or lunging, whose paddle is up or laying open, and the ball’s height against the net (the stem under the ball is red below the net, amber at it, green above). The text returns with the verdict so the coaching still makes sense, and a “Show the situation text” link stays available if you need it.
Instinct then revise (experiment)
Turn on Instinct then revise beside the animation toggle to make every rep a two-stage call. On a timed rep the first five seconds are the instinct window: tap what you would do at match speed. The same clock then continues (never less than four seconds) while you keep that call or change it. In untimed practice both stages run without a clock. Only the final call is rated, so Court IQ, streaks and reviews behave exactly as before; the instinct is graded for you to see, and the clubhouse keeps a tally of whether revising helps or hurts you. Miss the instinct window and the rep simply continues as a single call; run out of time after an instinct and that instinct stands.
Sound
Court sounds are synthesised on your device: a paddle hit scaled to the stroke, a duller bounce when the ball meets the court, and quiet tonal cues for the freeze, the last three seconds of the clock and each verdict. The speaker button mutes them all; it is separate from the animation and reduced-motion settings, so muting never changes the court and reduced motion never mutes.
What Court IQ means
Your selected starting level seeds this game estimate. At least 30 rated calls, including two in eight different themes, are needed before the provisional label is removed. Theme estimates stay provisional for eight rated calls. That is a coverage rule, not scientific calibration.
Court IQ has not been validated against DUPR, tournament performance, or real player anticipation. Diagrams and animated figures leave out important cues such as a real opponent’s paddle preparation. Correct answers are coaching judgments for the stated situation.
How reviews work
Missed calls return after two days; another miss brings the next review forward to one day. Successful due reviews stay in your queue with longer intervals, up to 60 days. Repeating an ordinary call does not add rating points. Practice builds review history without moving Court IQ.
Coaching sources
Every call includes its source in “Compare every call.” The library draws on the following coaching material. Authoring and automatic content checks do not replace independent review by a qualified coach.
- USA Pickleball · player skill levels
- USA Pickleball · mastering the third shot
- The Dink · third-shot drop versus drive
- The Dink · when to speed up
- The Kitchen · blocks and counters
